Most of the cops in my city are useless!! My car was broke into and they told me that I needed to look for the guy! My bank had good pictures of him, the cops said "what do you want us to do?" The only thing they are good at is bar closing patroling.

In general, I like cops. We'd be in one heck of a state if they didn't exist. I do have problems with some individual cops, though.

How do i respond to this question?

Being a police officer for 41 years, there is not much i have not experienced. drownings, dead bodies, raped children, raped mothers and daughters, too many homocides to print, at least 10,000 traffic accidents investigated, 5,000 home burglaries, 7,000 business burglaries, prostitution, and the incidents are endless.

During my 41 professional police officer career, i have discovered the following: during the first five years as a police officer, most men and women are "hot dog" cops. they run hot, in order to prove themselves and to make a good showing to the supervisors. as officers age, they tend to mellow out. this comes from experience.

Most officers have conflicts with the public, during those "hot dog" years. i would only hope these officers kept well within their boundry of the oath to protect the public.

Most fellow officers i work with today, are professional people. most are well educated and have degrees. that is a requirement of our department. a degree can work for you or against you, in police work.

I do not believe the majority of police officers intentionally mistreat or disrespect the public. we raised our hand and took an oath to protect and serve each citizen equally and fairly.

I ask this of you, please do not judge all officers, by the actions of a few. some people should never have been police officers in the beginning. we all know this. every company has a bad apple, it just happens.

The day i wake up and feel that i am not protecting the people of Nashville in a safe and honorable manner, is the day i will resign.

Again, pls do not judge all police officers, by the actions of a few.

    We are dedicated people.

I think they would catch more criminals if they put the same amount of effort that they do in chasing traffic offences

Yes, I like most cops. They have a tough, dangerous job and most of them do it well. However, there are those who have no business having that kind of power over people.

There are good ones and bad ones. Good forces and bad forces.

But as they said back in the 60's-70's, "Next time you're in trouble try calling a hippie!"

For the most part, I really like police. I am not too happy with the guy that pulled me over for doing 17 in a 15 (I mean, really, is a radar gun THAT good??). My cousin is a policeman, and he's... special... so I do worry that there are more out there like him. :-)

In general yes, they are the one's who put their life on the line to save my ass. There are a few who are complete asses, but you will find those in almost any profession (it's just that few can screw with you like cops).

I like the cops. They keep away the bad guys. Just think, there would be serial killers all over and criminals if we didn't have cops. Many people look at them as negative but they aren't because they keep your city safe.

I have never had a beef with cops in general. For the most part they have done an adequate job. Except for my recent traffic ticket and an incident in 1987; they have been polite and efficient when I have had need to call on them, or was in a traffic related incident. Where I live the cops are notoriously corrupt; but, I have not been personally affected by it except in the before mentioned situations. Even in cases of massive corruption like the Bridge Police in New Orleans and Baton Rouge City Police and the rapist cop in Lafayette, the over all performance of the police has been sufficient for most people. Only the people who were directly affected by their actions suffered from their corruption. That is why it took so long to fix the situation. Most people had no idea what the objects of the corruption were subjected to.

Yes I do like cops for the most part. There are some bad ones who take their positions and try to use them to be intimidating but the good ones are really good. I also dont think they are paid well enough.

I haven't had any negative dealings with police ( I like to use the polite term). I have testified on behalf of a policewoman who I saw assaulted by a young punk. He had been caught several times before for car stealing...and between the incident and the trial, he was caught three times more...in the end they had to let him go because he was crying harrassment...why do they have to put up with that rubbish? No wonder some turn bad. They don't get support from the community or the judiciary.

Cops are great. If there were none what would happen. They do a good job in difficult circumstances. Priority is important. If your granny was raped and they were busy looking for the bloke that broke into a car when they knew the likelyhood of finding him was slim then what is the right thing to do

I have a few friends in law enforcement. They all are good people. And they all know of 'bad cops'. They have told me stories about Internal Affairs showing up and officers not showing up to work anymore. I have also seen cops get drunk and pull out their guns in public, scares the hell out of everyone.

Unfortunately, When I first began driving, I was ticketed far too often, because the police thought my sports car needed watching. This profiling process quickly taught me that these men did not understand the law and were very poor observers and in court one lied profusely. I received tickets for loud exhaust, squealing tires, crossing the centerline, changing lanes and incorrect windshield. I was a very dangerous character in their eyes. So I don't respect their unprofessional conduct. Some are good guys, but too many are just in the job for the ego and authority boost. It is a thankless job so it is difficult to find good officers.
