Nothing at all to worry about. Make sure to let them know if you're a virgin. If you are, they use a smaller sized Speculum - the instrument that helps them see inside the vagina and swab the cervix. It shouldn't hurt at all, but it will be cold. We're all a little uncomfortable the first time (I cried. Seriously) but it's fine, and it's very important to go every year!

No need to be nervous. "Hurt" is a relative term, but even though there might be some level of discomfort, there should be no real sensation of pain during a routine first-time visit. This is from what some women have confided to me, on occasion. +5

I think the more nervous you are the more likely it will hurt. Try to relax and breath well through the exam and by all means tell your doctor or the nurse that sets up the exam that you are nervous and that you are worried it will hurt. That way they can explain each step of the procedure and tell you what to expect. If this is your first trip and you have questions I suggest you write a list of any questions or concerns you have regarding the exam or your health. When you are nervous you may forget even obvious questions and miss your chance to have them answered. The number one thing to remember here is that you are doing a very good thing in seeing the doctor and responsibly addressing your health. HUGS Good Luck!

Not sure now if you have already been. But don't be nervous. It helps more just to relax. Then is just a bit uncomfortable if anything, but not hurtful. +5

No need to be nervous. It's a very routine procedure. It always helps me to talk to the doctor about my concerns before he/she starts for the reassurance. You will be fine. You might feel a slight bit of pain for a feww seconds but if you take a deep breath the pain will lessen. Next thing you know it will be all over and you can be happily on your way.
