  • Not at all. We (Americans) have been encouraged to reduce our attention span to mere seconds. We get sound-bytes on TV, text bytes on our cell phones, and 2- or 3-word bumpersticker wisdom on our automobiles. Twitter also encourages a text-byte mentality.

Intellectual stimulation for me is anything that engrosses me for more than, say, 15 minutes at a time. It includes classical music, mathematics, science programs, history and political lectures, poetry reading or writing, etc. I'm not an expert in any of those fields but I'm interested in all of them.

No way! It's an amazing rush when you feel truly interested and dialed in to what you're doing. I love that feeling. When I go outside after one of those episodes it's like I can hear the birds singing louder and see details of small things I wouldn't have noticed before cuz I remember that the world is a place the interests me in SOOOOOOO many ways.

No, coming to understand new aspects of the world in which we live is one of the most satisfying feelings that I know.

Unfortunately, it often leads to the need for another 'hit'....;-D...

Not really. There is something to be said for a beautiful mind. The thing I try to remember when I think of intellect and intelligence is that although having a high IQ is great, it doesn't mean much unless you do something wonderful with it.
