Question

Help answer this question below.

Government employees won't get social security...right? Health care reform doesn't personally affect them either. They take the money from the lobbyists to protect the drug companies and insurance companies. So how much do they care about us?

Only a tiny percentage of the millions of government employees are members of Congress. And I,too, wonder how much our "trusted officials" care. There are plenty of government employees, though, who are mid- or low-level drones just like in any other employment.
And actually, they do get social security benefits for any employment they had outside of the U.S. gov't. But the benefits are reduced.

How long did it take you to figure out that powerful people get to make their own rules at the expense of the rest of us?

One of the question put to Pres. Obama today was pointed at your question. It's a good question. The question was: will government employees (which includes Senators and Congressmen) opt for the public option? Look, what should be done is (1) have 100% Single Payer Universal Health Care, or (2) allow any of the public to take the congressional plan.

Bingo! If Congress were willing to drop their health coverage and pick up this new plan they are creating for all of us, I bet a lot of the objections would vanish. But I think most of us know they'd never do that, because their plan is vastly better.

The last 8 years speaks for itself. They did nothing to help, they bankrupted our economy and now they are pointing the finger at the opposition. Please let the slient majority come forth already.

If you're not referring to Congressman/etc.

    WRONG.

Government employees get Social security taxes withheld, and they also get S.S. when they retire.

I would very much like to withhold all health insurance from all members of Congress as well as the President FIRST. I'd like to stop all the trips to foreign countries for "research" and all the perks, the cars, the passes and tickets for events. I'd like to see them go part-time like the TX Congress does.

BTW - Some govt employees DO get soc sec - Others became eligible for it at other jobs before or after govt service. CALPERS - CA state provider of benes - is supporting Obamaplan - because they believe it will reduce their enormous costs for health insurance. XX00

Why shouldn;t I have exactly the same health care options as my congressman and senator? That would help them understand the problems of the common people like you and me.

Bllomberg rides the subways in NYC so that he understands what it is to be a subway rider. Mayor Koch used to do the same thing.

Let's have the same as our congressmen have.

If elected officials had the interest of public at heart instead of the needs of corporate America, we would have had Single Payer long ago.

The ones that are fighting for the status quo, claiming government run health care is so terrible when they themselves have it and wouldn't give it up on a bet, they are showing with their actions who they care about. Hint, it ain't you and me!
