Question

Scotland just released Al-Megrahi (Lockerbie crash). Do you think this had anything to do with his pending appeal and recent findings that cast doubts on his original conviction? Imagine if an appeals court overturned his conviction.

    A lot of people say that he's innocent and that maybe his conviction was unsafe. At the time of the bomb attack people were anxious to convict someone to sate public outrage at the attack. In situations like these innocent people get arrested and convicted of something they never did. Perhaps the powers that be got worried that he would be proven innocent by new evidence?

    Who Is She

    No, because the appeal was already dropped before the final release decision was made.

    For statements about what al-Megrahi has always
    claimed was a wrongful conviction, see link below:

    In the circumstances it is easy to imagine
    how he might have decided to accept
    the Scottish Government's offer even though
    this would mean no further chance to appeal.

    An overturned conviction would have had far-reaching
    implications and heavy criticism for all concerned;
    but al-Megrahi knew it would be a long uncertain process.

    No, I don't think so, they all appeal.
