Please think carefully before naming a child. Just remember that is something the kid will have to live with (be stuck with) for the rest of his life. Don't give him/her a name he/she will not be able to get along with.

I'm very fortunate to have a last name that is quite uncommon, but the first name I was given (Farin) never set well with me. I was named after one of my mom's brothers. All of my life I have used my middle name, but regreted the fact I turned down my mom when she offered to let me change my name.

As I get older, confusion abounds. The only people who have the audacity to call me by my first name are either cops who stop me for a traffic violation, or those wishing to be strangled. ;)

Seriously though, you should check this link and look through many options before you find something you really like. My wife and I looked at a lot of names before we finally thought of one, and as soon as we thought of the combination we both loved it. It's one of those things where, when you find the right one, you'll know it.

Also, it's not good to stick a kid with an weird/undesirable name just because you feel like being unique. Most boys don't like having names that could be unisex but are a little more on the feminine side. For example, there was a football player on my team once whose name was Courtney. I've met guys named Dana and Kim... most guys don't want a name like that. I'm sorry to anyone out there named Gabriel... but that's going to be considered by most other kids to be such a "sissy" name for a guy, he'll probably catch hell for it most of his childhood. But some names that are considered unisex, like Chris, clearly that's more on the masculine side. Just my opinion... certainly others will disagree.

When I had to choose a name for my son, I thought of someone that I admired from school. He was a great athlete, great student, hard worker, treated women with respect, etc. Also, my sons middle and last name are terribly long so we wanted a short middle name. The result....Ryan! I have never met a Ryan who wasn't awesome, including mine :)
