I was in a Denver restaurant over 30 years ago, and for some reason I had no money or credit cards with me, to pay for a very expensive meal for me and my date. This was a 5-star restaurant, and the bill was for close to $100. The waiter sensed that I was "in trouble" (from the pained expression on my face) and said, to spare me any embarrassment in front of my date, "Will you be putting this on your account as usual, Sir?" Stunned, I nodded and he presented the check and said, "Sign here, then." I signed and left, and after I took my date home, I found my cards and money at home, went back to the restaurant, paid my bill in full, and gave that wonderful waiter a $100 tip for "taking a chance" on me. I was a total stranger to him, but I guess he had good instincts about people. Bless him! +5

I was taking the train home to visit my parents with a huge suitcasem plus another smaller one, because I was going to be there a while. As we get to the final stop, and I let everyone off first so I wouldn't block anyone, this man tried very hard to be the gentleman and let me go first. When that failed, when we got to the front of the train he asked if the remaining suitcase was mine, grabbed it, and carried it into the station for me.

Very unexpectedly, my boss handed me a check for much more than my week's wages, and with a twinkle in his eye he said "I didn't know you work that many hours last week". I was a bit of a state of shock at receiving a $4,000 bonus. Our company had profit sharing, but when I was hired I was told that I would be elligible after a year's employment. I had only been there about six or seven months when I got that nice bonus. I was very appreciative, and added that check to my retirement account. Must be he liked my work ethic and the fact I could turn jobs in good enough time that the company actually made a profit. In the present economy, profits are hard to come by, but if you give your best efforts to your job, your employer is likely to recognize you with some kind of reward.
