My gas gauge & temp gauge werent workin & my antifreeze was boilin over. I put water n my antifreeze b/c I thought it was gettin hot and my gauges started working again. Could a bad thermostat b the problem makin it boil over & cause my gauges not 2 work?

1999 Blazer 4 door 4.3 4 wd. When I open one of the front doors, the gas and temp gauges go to the bottom, Without starting, after a minute or so they go back up to midway. When I open the door again to get out, they go back down....etc. Any ideas?
