This all depends on your hospital, and if you have your own room vs a shared room.

When my husband had emergency gall bladder surgery, we had a 6month old child, so we spoke to the lead nurses, and he was able to be moved to a single room, where a cot was put in there for us.

The best thing to do, is if you know when you'll be having surgery, to talk to the nurse manager of that floor, to find out if it's possible to be put into a single room.

    Good luck!
