    There is no one-step process.

    1) Make sure you have enough RAM; 2GB for Vista, 1GB otherwise.

    2) Run CCleaner

    3) Defrag your hard drive regularly

    4) Sweep for other malware. I use Avira for viruses and Spybot S&D for spyware.

    5) Make sure your hard drive is less than 90% full.

... easiest is to hire a computer systems analyst to analyze your computer and then replace certain hardware, such as mother board & CPU, add RAM, switch from slower IDE drives to faster SETA drives & RAID them together ... and even change from a slow dial up internet connection to your own dedicated T-1 ...

dead leaves raked in a pile

drop it out of a high window

IF IT IS SHORT OF MEMORY - add more RAM. (windows XP really likes 1 GB, Vista minimum 2 GB, preferably 4)

If the hard drive is full, delete a load of files and defragment. OR get a newer faster hard drive and make it your new boot disk. Seriously, and old slow disk will really slow a computer down.

Oddly, as long as you have at least a 1.5GHz processor, the processor rarely makes much difference for general computing.

The easiest way is to download a free cleaner and check your computer.

Try some of the trial versions from this site: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/31/us/crp/0

Clean your registry and generally the whole hard disk by running of some good and advanced disk cleaner.

I have Mil Shield from years and I can not imagine to run my computers and I don't clean them every day many a time with it.

It is a great program for keeping your system free of unnecessary cookies, registry keys, temporary files, and many more files!

I agree with most of the suggestions already given to you. However, if you do not have high speed internet, adding DSL or Cable Broadband is a sure way to make your computer faster. I wish you the best and hope your computer will do as you want it to. :-)

    1. Increase your RAM.
    2. Reinstall Windows and all your apps, but only the ones you really need.
or.. Dump Windows and use Linux.

defrag could make it noticably faster. it is easy to do. more ram is easy for the installer to do. getting rid of extra .tmp and .temp files is often helpful. operating only one program at a time is good, too.
