Good question. Our country racks way down the line in the quality of health care when compared to the rest of the world. As Obama said, our system needs fixing, the only real question is how. Conservatives claim to fear more government control...yet when they have had the political power they tend to increase the ability of government to infiltrate influence the lives of the people more and more. All I have heard from the far right is attacks on the Pres. I join you in looking for alternative plans that would cover everyone in a workable fashion. That seems to be a subject avoided by Lindbaugh and others.

They would like to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid as long as the Democrats would take the fall for it. They would be for tort reform. And although they have deregulated healthcare down to the point where just 6 companies hold a virtual monopoly in the insurance marketplace and are virtually exempt from antitrust regulations, they'd love to deregulate some more and lower the medical care industry's taxes.

(In answer to "Your question is flawed in that it presumes that the way healthcare is paid for in America should be changed.")

There is no doubt whatsoever that the way healthcare is paid for in America should be changed.

    -the system is broken

-makes it impossible for small businesses to create new jobs, thus the economy suffocates

-all the pressure is on the middle class to literally pay their own way while insurance companies and related corporations make obscene profits and avoid giving the services we do pay for

-the poor have no coverage at all and stay sick until resorting to high cost emergency procedures we all end up paying for (while corporations get another free ride)

-the majority of people who can afford coverage now are only one sickness away from falling in the pre-existing condition category and never get coverage again

-premiums are rising in such a way that those who can pay today will be priced out of the market sooner than they realize

Should I go on? It's more than just rising costs. The whole system is rigged. What's there to like? If unchanged this system is slated to bankrupt the country within a generation!

They are bringing to the table a "gnashing of teeth."
Opposition. Fear of loss. A tight grip to the bitter end.

Conservatives don’t want any socialized healthcare programs to drag down their quality of care. If your concern is cost of care, than the government should be talking about a bill that addresses healthcare costs (not a bill that changes who pays fro healthcare).

Your question is flawed in that it presumes that the way healthcare is paid for in America should be changed.
