  • I do not know the details of the PCI express versions. I am sure that although they are similar, version 2.0 is an extension/enhancement of the original PCI-x. However, I do know that compatibility is PC design is very important - the newer spec can usually fallback and work to the original specifications. One example of this is the AGP 1x/2x/4x/8x - they could all drop back to support an older spec component. (8x would not always drop back all the way to 1x) I would expect a PCI-x2 card to work in a PCI-x motherboard and vice versa.
