K-Mart
I think Radioshack survives in small towns where it is the only electronics store (such that it is) for miles and miles in any direction.
.
When I was a lad it was a very different store. It sold parts for hobbyists, vacuum tubes for home replacement and any number of geek things. Lately it's just sad. I don't think the corporation knows what to do with themselves anymore.
I could never figure out the Starbucks thing. Who in there right mind would pay $4.00 for a quarters worth of brew??
Ikea and K-mart
beanie babies
this is a dup and it won't come up on the list - dang it!
they both operate by making you think you need useless crap you cannot get anywhere else - Ikea makes the worst built stuff in the world but as long as it's trendy some idiot will buy it

I've been wondering about Kmart all my life, all the way back to when they were still Kresge's. Our local one never seems to have more than 4 or 5 customers in the whole store every time I go in, and I haven't been in for a long time.

I once lived in a town where a Walmart opened right next to a K-mart and sucked all the life from it leaving a dessicated baby-blue and red shell behind.

Not hard to believe. Their business model leaves a lot to be desired. They always staff the place with teenagers who have no clue what they are doing and maybe one adult to supervise them all, and that goes back to when my mother worked there as a teen. The difference is, kids in my mothers generation were raised to be a whole lot more adult than kids are now. And they haven't adjusted.
