Many virus' are designed to disable antivirus products. That said, don't assume that is why your application isn't functioning properly...
Suggestions:
-use "intelligent updater" (temporary workaround) followed by full scan

-uninstall / reinstall (if necessary)
-do full scan of system with alternate
-do general cleanup with defrag and ccleaner type utilities...

Why is it that my Norton antivirus program finds new threats every time I do a full computer scan?

Is it safe/will it damage my computer if I remove Norton PC checkup through the Add/Remove Programs list? It acts more like spyware than anything else on my computer, it's useless and annoying :/
