Sorry man I don't got an answer to this but I have a 1989 VW Golf and it does almost the same thing but the oil sensor comes on at random times saying the oil is low even though it never is. I think something with the oil sensor is just plain screwed on all Golfs.

You're reading I have a 1996 volkswagon golf cl and the oil pressure sensor is CONSTANTLY going off when the revs are below 2000 rpm... can my car handle thicker oil? like 10/40? it doesnt say anything in my manuel about it...

haha pretty sure you're right about that.... it's a loud beeping sound the freaks me out every time it goes off. stupid golf:P it's been great to me otherwise, but it's a REALLY annoying problem.

yeah mine is loud and annoying as well but they got great gas milage.
