Question

Help answer this question below.

In the "Vagina monologues" one skit was "This short skirt has nothing to do with you (men)". I didn't get it, why wear it if not to be sexy? That's why I wear my short skirts haha.

Women dress for themselves, for other women, for men or for whomever they choose to dress for and that is a decision that if entirely up to them. In our culture women are often put on a pedestal for their beauty, or often just because women are special, and we all know that to be true. Regardless many women believe that dressing sexy is its own reward while others don't care to dress sexy. Either way many, not all feminists and/or empowered women say that "this short skirt has nothing to do with men" is expressing a very popular position that many women believe and that may be "what I do I do for myself, not for men". I agree to a point. Sometimes I dress for a man but not unless I feel like it, enjoy it and own it.

Does that mean I will wear something that I don't want to wear? No! But I enjoy wearing short skirts and high heels so I don't need to be forced, simply asked nicely by someone I care for. I may say yes, I may say no. The decision is always mine. Do I do this in anger or to proclaim my womanness? Naw. I love being a woman who is a heterosexual thus I understand and appreciate the interaction between men and women. That does not mean I am somebody's "bitch"? No!

I happen to like looking sexy but when I don't, I don't. Works for me but I truly respect women with an alternative point of view, don't you? Equally I respect the questioners position. There is a time to be sexxxxxyyyyyyyyyyy- for sure and that is much of the time for me. There is a time to dress maturely, respectfully even matronly on occassion. The latter is rare but dressing is such a personal decision that it isn't up to the guy next door, the pastor, the federal government. It is a small freedom in many ways but I am rather intolerant of many governments who think- they think it is up to a religion or government to decide that for a woman-
There is not enough space here, interest, time for me to vent on those religions, govt's or men who think they have the right to require women to dress according to their "requirements". Thanks be to God that I don't live there! Sorry, I kinda got off the point. Appreciate your freedom, not everyone has it and that really sucks for them. This country-US is not perfect but consider some of the alternatives. Some of these small freedoms really are not life and death, but again these are freedoms nonetheless. Some may say they are frivolous, that is until they are taken away. Don't you agree?
