When you, a fan of something which already exists, like a video game, movie, cartoon, comic or whatever, write an unofficial sequel, filler, spin off, continuation, prequel or what have you of said material.
I once wrote a FFVI fanfiction story about how one of the characters brought his dead girlfriend back to life, and upon such abnormal abusing of nature, everyone involved, boyfriend, recent girlfriend and jealous ninja committed suicide out of grief and sorrow because they just couldn't take it; including the resurrected girlfriend.
It wasn't accepted on the site which hosts them.
