If a claim was filed, you can simply call the insurance carrier and give them the claim number. There really should have been an exchange of info and a police report as already stated. If the other driver didn't have insurance, they are most likely in violation of state law and can face a hefty fine.
In most states you are required to exchange information including DL and Insurance Info. If that didn't happen you can try to go to the DMV and ask if they can provide you with info due to the circumstances. Sometimes privacy laws prevent it.
Otherwise, contact the other driver and ask; then call the carrier.
Last resort: sue the other driver. You'll find out about their insurance status in the process of discovery.
The police report would indicate this.....if no police report, then no insurance payment.....
