  • I think it often a mistake to think that urinating is a part of the flight only. To piss your pants in order to fight is a pretty good strategy also. Focus is also a reason. If a person thinking or concentrating about a problem hard enough - that person might just have my muscles relax up and voila. Excitement can also cause it - same reason. This being known - and knowing that society frowns upon wetting oneself. 'Whether or not I have to pee 'is going to be what one focuses on in a nervous situation. Thinking about it is bound to make the feeling even worse.
  • Only part of the above answers are correct. Feeling the need to urinate when anxious is part of the fight/flight response, but not in the sense that one needs to less excess weight to be faster. The body actually transfers more blood to the muscles, so one can utilize these more efficient. More blood in the muscles means more fuel, more oxygen and more stamina for action. This blood gets transferred from the gut and skin area. The effect is that you will have more fluids in a closer space, this excess volume of fluids in the muscles are flushed to the bladder, which again triggers the sensation and the need to urinate. The more anxious one is, the stronger and faster this process will be, which can result to wetting oneself in stressful situations. Especially if one has low bladdercontrol. For instance young children, puppies etc. I hope this answers the question in an understandable manner. M. Messaoudi
