I nominate "Dark Star", It was intentionally cheesy, a sci-fi parody from John Carpenter when he was a student. Due to limited funds, the alien was a beach ball with feet glued to the bottom. A very aggressive and hungry beach ball. I hope the video uploads, it shows the crew member Pinback who brought the alien on board trying to get it back into it's cage.
