Sorry - your money is gone. Website is just an automatic machine. It no more represents a living company than the restaurants entry in the telephone directory represents one. When the restaurant's paid-in-advance period ends, the web site hosting company will take it down. Until then, you are talking to a zombie.
You are an unsecured creditor of the company. In theory, you deserve your money back. But in the order in which things are handled, you come pretty far down the line. I doubt that it is worth your while chasing the debt.
This is why I don't do gift cards.

alot of restaurants are franchises. maybe the home office would send you another one. if the website was prepaid it might still be up but the business closed. if they went bankrupt you are pretty much out of luck. you could go to court and be a creditor, but chances are you won't get anything.
Good question, especially these days...suggest you contact (assuming you are in the States) the court clerk for the bankruptcy court and ask for guidance...best of luck, friend...

You're reading Purchased a gift card. Restaurant went out of business but website is still up so under contact I put my name and e-mail and asked to send me $50 back. This restaurant used to be only in one location. If this doesn't work how can I get my money back?
