You can sue him in small claims court. They will serve him by mail. If he doesn't show up for the hearing you will win by default. Then you have a piece of paper but getting the money will still be a challenge. If he works you may be able to have his wages garnished. All of this costs money and you will end up really "winning" very little.

You're reading My ex-bf owes me for my condo doors he damaged whn drunk in Jan 09. I did call cops that night. The amt owed the HOA is $986. He hs only paid me $400 & I hs not sent anything since Mar. I live in TX, he moved to FL. Can I sue him for the difference?

Yes, but the point here is that actually collecting on the judgment will be a problem. When you win all you get is a piece of paper saying that he owes you the money -- the money doesn't just show up. It will be up to you to go after the money and his being in another state will only make it harder.
