Why is it that we wear bathing suits to swim but not to bathe?

    Presumablyt because a) when bathing, it is a hell of a lot easier to wash without one and b) who the hell are you going to offend when you are bathing?

    Unless you happen to be someone who's just emerged from the Roman Empire (Or Republic, for that matter), chances are that you don't bathe in public view.

    in the past, I supposed that public bathing was one of the only times one did literally bathe...but since it was in public, then covering up was the norm.

    The same reason you say, "Your going to TAKE a sh!t", when actually your leaving it, or parking in a driveway & driving on a parkway.

    I think its that the English language is just plain twisted.

    But actually I think it refers to "sun bathing". Huh?

    When I'm taking a bath, it's in the privacy of my own home or in the privacy of someone else's bathroom. When I'm swimming, I'm in public view.
