Is it mostly Highlanders who identify themselves with one of the ancient clans?

• @Greek, I don't quite understand what you mean by "they are still in touch with their history". Curious because I do genealogical research and have some Scot ties. Is it only those who are actively involved with their clan research?

• What I mean is that here in Scotland through everyday life. highlanders are more aware of their history than lowlanders

• Thanks, Beccy95. I had heard it was a "recent thing", i.e., the clan tartans. But, "a few hundred years" is no short time span. And are we sure it is of such a recent "invention"? I have also heard that it was a "revision" of a very ancient thing, which was banned after Colodon, and even after the 1715 uprising in those lowland areas that the English could actually control. I will say that it is probably much older than many will grant..and much more recent than many would wish. (smile).

• (lol) I was asking primarily about those in Scotland. I really wasn't sure, but I just suspected it was more a "highland" thing.
