  • Did you try: http://www.genealogytoday.com/surname/finder.mv?Surname=Azurdia
  • It appears that it may be Guatemalan...Óscar Mendoza Azurdia (born 1917) was the chairman of the military junta in Guatemala from 24 October 1957 to 26 October 1957;Alfredo Enrique Peralta Azurdia (1908 – 1997) was President of Guatemala from 31 March 1963 to 1 July 1966. Whether it is originally from Spain I do not know, but i cannot see any spanish with that surname online, only Guatemalans.
  • Its of basque/southern french origin. I'm not 100% sure of the meaning although I heard my grandfather saying it meant hard bone. The Azurdia family left port from Biarritz to england and guatemala where the name was taken by many servants and people that worked for them. So many Azurdias are not actually family :/. So it depends on your ethnicity I guess.
  • Hmm! I don't know, but from the word I would guess it comes from Latin, concerning the meaning, the closest i can assume 'absurdity' - seems kind of strange, but I know people come up with inexplicable names. Look at the Afro-American names which in many cases is similar to accepted ones but spelled in strange ways!
