My friend is bi-polar and his daughter was diagnosed with it also. I'm going to say that yes it can be passed down.
-
My mother is bipolar. You know who else is apparently bipolar? Her three children. Bitch is consistent.
-
You do not "catch" bipolar disorder. It is thought that a person can inherit a disposition for the disorder, but that environment triggers cause the disorder to appear.
-
Well... the children can't "catch" it, its not a disease, but yes biploar is hereditary. If both parents are bipolar, or have had it, then the chance of the children suffering with it is 50% percent (25% if one parent is bipolar) This also increases at a rate of five percent per each generation the disorder has gone through (so if a grandparent also had bipolar, in addition to the two parents, the chance is 55%).

It's not a cold... you cannot catch it... but it can be inherited. I am bi-polar... my mother was bi polar as well.
-
The children wouldnt catch is as such, but bipolar is passed through genes, so there would be a very high chance of the child developing bipolar, especially if both the parents have it.
-
It can be known to be in the genes. But only when it is exposed to environment will it become known that you have it. If you are brought up in a caring loving family you are prob less likely to develope it.

i have bipolar but non of my three sons have it however i suspect my farther did geneticaly you have a higher predisposition to ineriting it but nothing is carved in stone.
