  • Oh, well in that case, keep them. Especially if they have grown in like normal teeth and your mouth isn't crowded.
  • Ask your dentist, not us! There are a lot of possible reasons for wisdom teeth to come out. Sometimes they can rot, as another answer suggested; they can poke out just enough to attract cavities and other bad stuff without being useful; they can come in sideways (this was what mine did) and cram your other teeth together. So ask your dentist why he wants to remove them. Look at the x-rays yourself, if possible. If he can't come up with a clear reason or just wants to remove them because they're wisdom teeth, and you still don't agree, by all means keep them in. There's no reason you should go through the pain of oral surgery, much less the pain of paying for it, if you don't have to.
  • Be careful about this. Have your dentist explain to you why he want the two wisdom teeth removed and get a second opinion! My wisdom teeth were not bothering me at all. My dentist did a panoramic x-ray. I am glad he did. My dentist showed me the x-ray and pointed out the problems with my teeth. I was nervous! My wisdom teeth came in at an angle and were eroding my 2nd molars. I had to have all four of mine removed. Another note I recently took Human Anatomy and Physiology in college. My teacher was a dentist. When we were studying about the teeth my teacher said that teeth like pairs and will adjust themselves in order to have a mate
  • I am having my wisdom teeth removed as well. Wisdom teeth are unnecessary to the human body so over time, due to natural selection processes people no longer get wisdom teeth. afer having an x-ray on my teeth the doctor pointed out that one is actually growing sideways (which is common), when the teeth come through, they often cause overcrowding in the mouth, and eventually the teeth of the lower jaw will buckle and disalign themselves. Also, as wisom teeth are not a necessity, they may eventaully rot in your mouth and casue rotting in surrounding teeth. i suggest you get them out, before its too late.
  • You shouldn't, especially if you're not suffering any problems! Surgery is serious, even if it's dental surgery cause you're going under! Your dentist should show you the xrays and state why he thinks it's necessary to remove your lower wisdom teeth. Be careful he/she isn't just trying to make money off you and / or your insurance provider on what isn't a necessary procedure for you to have. If both sides are done at once, it will be really painful for you, so it's likely you'll have them removed one at a time, which means more expense. Get a second opinion if you have to, and don't be afraid to say no! All the stories about wisdom teeth having to come out or causing all these problems in the future, may or may not be true, but certainly not for me. I was 16, sick with strep throat when all 4 of my wisdom teeth came in. It was horrible not being able to eat or swallow or close my swollen mouth, but they all grew in fine in a few weeks. Over the years I've never had any dentist suggest my wisdom teeth should come out - even when 2 of them eventually got cavities and had fillings put in them! About 10 years ago it was determined that my lower left wisdom tooth was cracked, sometimes causing pain when air passed over the nerve. It had to come out, but the procedure usually calls for both upper and lower to be taken at once, so both were removed without incident. I will soon be 49 years old, and all I know is my own experience in this life. But I've suffered no shifting or any other problems in my mouth, and still have my right side wisdom teeth. The bottom one has a filling! Like I said, all the stories about what can or will happen, may or may not be true. It's the chance you take, but be sure you've got good information to make a good decision for your best life! Good luck with whatever you do!
