Question

Help answer this question below.

Oftentimes, directions on a microwaveable item will tell you to leave the item set in the microwave 1-2minutes longer once it's done cooking? If it's done cooking. . . . .WHAT'S THE POINT IN LETTING IT SET 1-2mins. LONGER in the microwave if it's NOT on?

It doesn't have to be in the microwave, it just has to be left to rest before being taken out of its container. The reason is that microwaves can produce uneven heating, with small areas of extreme heat which might burn someone consuming it, or even serving it, even though most of the dish was at a safe temperature. The rest is for the heat to spread out from any such hot-spots into the rest of the dish.

Because some very stupid people will attempt to eat food as soon as it's heated up, not understanding that hot things can burn you. It's really there to protect the manufacturer, anyone stupid enough to burn themselves with a microwave can't read anyway.

micro waves get very hot. by letting it stand 1 or 2 min, its still cooking. just like a big turkey you might cook, most directions say take if out and let stand for 20 min. even though it is out of the oven, the internal heat is still cooking the bird, or in your case the microwave dish.

Well. Here is something I am very well versed in. You are asked to leave the food in because microwaves agitate the water molecules in the food. They get excited, rub very fast against each other and heat is produced. When the microwave is turned off the molcules are still vibrating. They ask you to wait because the food is too hot and still is cooking. That is all

It's to allow any potential microbursts of superheated liquids a chance to dissipate or dilute into the rest of the food.

Some stuff keeps cooking after the microwave is off. Another thing it could be is just cooling time. They don't want you to burn your tongue off.
