No, it's not a reasonable excuse to be found not guilty of committing crimes. Normal and natural biological functions, even ones that hurt or alter our moods do not make it ok to commit crimes. It appears to me that giving birth is far more painful and mood altering than PMS not even taking into account any drugs she might be on, is it sensible to allow women to go on murderous rampages in the process of giving birth? No, it's not ok for mom to kill dad in the delivery room because she's giving birth. Simply put, there is no reason to think women experiencing PMS can't control themselves from committing crimes purely because they are experiencing PMS. It is possible there may be some rare and extreme cases, I don't know. But I can't get away with crimes because I'm constipated with a headache.

Yeah. Definitely. Not sure why, but women should be allowed to get away with anything in PMS. I mean, i imagine myself, and if i was a woman & went thru all that... i'd flip out.

I would've said not, until I started suffering with it. PMS really can be severe, and some months I am an absolute nightmare. I think PMS could definitely interfere with a woman's behaviour, but it depends what the crime is to whether she is found not guilty.

I think pms just makes you more crazy and it is used as an excuse so you can get bi**hed at more, and that is their good reason for it.lol

No, for a variety of reasons, mainly because then every woman could get away with said crime.

No. there is medication for PMS. knowing its there and not using it, is not a defense in court.

The same applies to an alcoholic that robs a store and states he did not know what he was doing, since he was drunk. this is also not a defense in court.

We have to be accountable for our actions. if not, society could not exist.

No, that's ridiculous. I've been in psychosis before, which PMS x10, and I don't even think being in that state would be a reasonable excuse for commiting a crime.

*Note, while I was in psychosis, I was not "psycho", I just cried all the time, and was suspicious of everyone, even Conan O'Brien. :p But not dangerous.

No. There are no excuses. For anything.
The old truism is an old truth:
He who excuses himself, accuses himself.
    Or herself.

You would create a prescident that every time a woman suffered from PMS she could get away with anything she wanted. NO

No. If your moodswings are so serious that they could make you commit a crime, then get help BEFORE you commit it.

No it isn't reasonable to be acquitted of a crime due to PMS.
Everyone suffers from mood swings due to different chemical imbalances from time to time for all kinds of reasons - teenagers, the menopause, diet.
Where would you stop - "I'd not had any breakfast your honour, and felt a bit grumpy. I didn't mean to stick the axe in his head."

No I don't think PMS is a reasonable excuse to not be found guilty. PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) however. is a serious chemical imbalance that can adversely affect one's actions. Having that be a reasonable excuse to not be found guilty though, is really up to the individuals case.

I used to work as a social worker on a forensic unit in a state mental hospital. Our task was "restoration to competency to stand trial". I never met anyone who was using a PMS defense.
The virtually total loss of civil rights for a person who is found not guilty by reason of insanity (which is what you are describing) is a HUGE consequence. Basically you are under the absolute and hyper-sensitive control of a guardian committee whose task is not your comfort and well-being but the safety of the public. Usually you will spend a long time in a secure psychiatric facility before being released to supervised living in the community.
I have worked with people who have become truly psychotic due to hormonal changes. The criminal law is set up so that if a person is unable to tell right from wrong at the time of the crime, this is considered; but again, it is a very big deal and would have to be a most unusual case.

Well, it's hard to say. It is a syndrome. Men get upset, but in a more rational way, women during PMS get upset in an irrational way which can be dangerous.
