Remember when banks would give a customer a free gift if they opened an account? And it was something useful like a VCR or a food processor. I haven't seen anything like this in years. Why aren't banks giving gifts for new accounts any more?

You bring back memories. A toaster used to be the most popular gift that I can remember, and there was quite a bit of joking about it. I guess now we have to settle for free checking.

When I was in secondary school a guy from the local bank came to our school. He told us that if anyone opened an account today the bank would put £50 into it right away. We all signed up, that was 20 years ago and I'm still with the same bank today. Unfortunately they stopped giving away money.
