A guy who attended the President's Town Hall Meeting arrived with a loaded gun. When interviewed later he said he thought if all who attended had carried a loaded gun (1000 people were there) everyone would have been safer. Do you agree?

Hi honey...here's my question to you...why in the heck do we give these people publicity/attention/time? Won't it just encourage others to do the same thing so they can say what they want in front of millions of people? Thank you for your answer and Happy Thursday Shemarq! :) ((hugs))

You are absolutely right. Now there are going to be others that are going to try doing it as well. The part that scares me is that the people that do it are obviously not running on all cylinders and to have them in public with a deadly weapon? That is only asking for trouble.

Thank you for your answer TWoG. He wasn't arrested because he did have a permit "to carry". The gun was strapped to his leg so it wasn't concealed. Do you carry a weapon?

He wasn't even arrested. I saw an interview he gave later on a TV show...I couldn't believe it. Giving him attention, publicity, press as if he were a celebrity or a citizen of note seems like a reward...it will encourage others like him to do the same thing so they can have their "15 minutes of fame". They didn't arrest him because he had a permit "to carry". I guess it's okay "to carry" as long as it isn't concealed? What d'ya think Jim? Are we "going to he** in a handbasket"? Watching some of the shows you and I enjoy, seeing the clearly detailed, example-by-example presentation each day of these very scary individuals, it seems we are being derailed steadily and things are getting much worse. Do you have any idea how many of these "militia groups" and hate groups exist? Are they in the millions? Are they all armed? Are we the enemy who must be extinguished? :( Thank you for your answer my friend!

Apparently there are Militia Groups out there (there always were I guess but there are more of them now)...there are citizens who "carry" and they are all upset about "their" America. Thank you for your answer TGA and Happy Thursday to you. Do you have a permit "to carry"? Do you feel safer among a group of people with permits "to carry" whose weapons are visible? I'm not talking about being at a meeting of gun enthusiasts here...I'm talking about being at a large gathering of all kinds of people, some of whom may not be as calm, rational or predictable as we would like.

Yes, I have a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms. There was a similar case here in PA last year where a law abiding citizen was Open Carry down the street from an Obama rally handing out literature while holding a bibile. It was his statement, a response to Obama's remark that 'Pennsylvanians cling to their guns and bibles'. Police paniced, detained the man and called in the Secret Service.

The Secret Service didn't care, they apparently are more concerned with the guns they can't see and apparently don't view Open Carry as being any more of a threat than the many Law Enforcement Officers at the even that they don't know anything about.

Thanks to media hype when there is anything to do with firearms(if it bleeds it leads). Many people these days see firearms as a symbol of evil. The reality is that the United States was founded on the freedom of citizens with firearms when the British marched on Lexington and Concord with the first attempt on these shores of 'gun control'.

With an understanding of history one can view an armed citizen as being a symbol of patriotism. The armed law abiding citizen (as opposed to a criminal) is an expression of both the 1st and 2nd Ammendmant of the Bill of Rights. Just like some may not enjoy the free speech of those they disagree with, it still must be respected for it's nothing less than an expression of freedom. As far as safety of the President there would have been a perimeter set up with metal detectors. It's what the Secret Service would insist on. If someone is outside of that perimeter and makes no attept to cross it... Why would anyone see it as being threatening?
