  • No. I think they are proud to show off the fact they are missing a limb and perhaps feel sorry or superior over the ones who have all of theirs attached. Have you seen a film called Quid Pro Quo? Part of a documentary is attached about the disease.
  • People with BIID do not feel "deformed". We know very well that our bodies are perfectly normal. It's just that it feels wrong to us. There is no delusion there. We do not feel uncomfortable around people who have all their limbs. BIID is not at all about other people in any way, but about our own brain body schema. It should be noted that there is evidence that BIID actually has neurological causes. We do not feel sorry nor superior to anyone. It has nothing to do about getting attention. In fact, we would rather have our required impairment (whether an amputation, paralysis, blindness, or deafness) and be alone, than be able bodied and get the positive attention of hundred of people.
