Is it a good idea to use shredded paper in your roof for insulation?

typical insulation doubles as a fire retardent. shredded paper would obviously not succeed in that role, so i'd think not.

- There is commercially produced cellulose (shredded paper) insulation readily available in most home centers. They are generally treated with a fire retardant and require a machine to blow the insulation into your attic.

If there is a way of treating it so it can't become water logged or mouldy then it is an excellent idea.

- Thats another consideration. I think they leave it plastic bags. You will also have to treat with a fire-retardent. Thanks CL.

No it is not a good idea, because it is not fire resistant, and also can be a breeding ground for rodents.

- Just use regular insulation. You want to use paper that have to bag, make fire retardant, make rodent retardant. Just insulate with the real stuff.
