Yes. In the short term, it is a zero sum game: for every winner there is a loser, and vice versa. In the long term, the stock market (on average) captures the growth of the economy as a whole. Day trading is a fools game, but long term investment in well diversified stocks will show certain gains.
Of course it's possible. Warren Buffet has made billions in the stock market. But it takes consistency, discipline and a plan.
