Certain diseases make you lose weight, as well a over-functioning thyroid.

    yes!
In fact the most appropriate, safe, healthy and lasting way to get off weight and keep it off is simply following a balanced diet and general health maintenance!

You don't have to starve yourself or take pills...sure the weight might come off but I think just about everyone knows that those methods have you ballooning up and then losing and then ballooning up again..not good for the body and not safe sometimes or lasting.

Not to mention, using things like medications and starvation to trick the body's metabolism actually hurts it worse because the body gets so used to having that extra push that when you go off the pills or eat again the body stores everything as fat once again. It may even permanantly damage the metabolic rate of the body.

The most sure fire way to lose weight and keep it off is a healthy balanced diet, lots of water and yes just a little bit of exercise never hurts.

4-6 small meals a day, keeping the body hydrated, eating balanced meals with simple clean natural ingredients, taking a multivitamin or eating vitamin and fiber rich foods will naturally regulate the body and you WILL lose weight and keep it off.

I've never been overweight but I lived in Korea and japan when I was younger and still maintain an asian diet and lifestyle even though I am white. Most of my family ranges from slightly overweight to obese except for me. I think that is because my family's diet is fdifferent than my own. While most of them eat burgers, fries, processed packaged or fast foods, deep fried foods heavy in fat, drink very little water which is completely different than my diet which consists of fresh fish, lots of veggies and some starches (rice). Nothing is fried or deep fried, nothing is processed or prepackaged and I eat all I want to several times a day and never gain a pound and neither does my gf who eats 5 times more than I do!!!

Not without starving yourself half to death, or over using laxatives, neither option is pleasant or healthy.
Move more, eat heathier food, drink more water, and get a body fat monitor so you can see the progress you're making.
Either that, or book a flight into space.

No way unless you have an extremely high matabolism. Other than that you have to watch what you eat and exercise. A pound equals 3500 calories so you need to burn an extreme amount of calories or consume less or do both which is better to loose and keep off weight. Good Luck!

Yes, it's called starving yourself, and it works too but you can wreck your health by doing it for too long.

Well, start eating tiny portions of everything, for a total of 1800 calories a day. I lost a lot of weight doing that under medical supervision.

If you are maintaining your weight now with what you eat and the amount of exercising you do, then we have a starting point... In my opinion, from personal experience, portion is one major factor. Read about suggested portions and follow closely, even if it means measuring or weighing food at first. And NEVER get to the point that you are hungry - eat 3 proper meals per day and try to eat something healthy at 3 hour internals between meals. You will not be hungry aqnd therefore you are less likely to crave a bad-food snack. Drink water regularly too. Better to have to pee often than to be heavier than you wish. And exercise caqn be as sinple as walking the long way to your destination or climbing steps instead of ussing the elevator. Eat moderately every 3 hours, control portions, drink water and walk more as part of your routine - I guarantee that you will lose weight in a healthy way so you will keep it off forever!!!! Good luck, Gary L

Actually dieting, especially crash dieting is not the best way to lose weight. When you diet and when you eat less food than the recommended minimum, the metabolic rate of your body decreases. The metabolic rate is the rate at which your body burns fat, so the slower the metabolic rate the less fat the body burns. The reason your metabolic rate slows down when you diet is due to the body's natural defence mechanism i.e. when your body gets less food than it expects, it goes into starvation mode and burns fewer calories in order to protect itself.

Truth to be told, the best way to lose weight is to eat several times daily, say every 3 to 4 hours. When you eat regularly your metabolic rate increases and your body will burn more fat then normal. You obviously need to eat healthy food for this to happen (keep reading on). Your portion sizes should also be fairly small and you should only eat till you have just satisfied your hunger.

Therefore in order to lose weight you should not diet but you should however correct your diet. Your diet should be one based on unprocessed cereals, vegetables, legumes (soya beans, peas, and lentils), whole grain foods, nuts, seeds and fish. Junk food, foods with high fat contents and generally all fried foods should be avoided if you want to lose weight. Even ham, tuna salad, bacon, meatballs, steak and generally speaking all red meats should be avoided, since even these foods are high in fat content. Chicken breast however makes good food for weight watchers, since it is very low in fat whilst being high in protein.

Other foods that should be avoided are all those foods that are high in sugar content like sweets, cakes and ice-cream. Even soda drinks (soft drinks) should be avoided due to their high sugar content. Even bread and pasta are fattening if these are made from processed (white) wheat. Instead you should eat whole grain bread (brown bread) and whole grain pasta.

Coming to exercise, exercise speeds up your metabolic rate and that means speeding up the fat burning process. For example, football burns about 630 calories per hour while soccer burns about 700 calories per hour. Basketball and singles tennis burn about 560 calories per hour. Martial arts like Kick Boxing, Karate, Tae Kwan Do and Jujitsu burn about 700 calories per hour. If you are not into sports you can try brisk walking or perhaps if you aren’t too fat for it, jogging. You can also try doing anaerobic exercises like Yoga or Pilates. These exercises strengthen your body’s core, whilst improving posture, toning your mid-section and aiding in weight loss. However it is important to note that exercise on itself is usually not sufficient if accompanied by bad eating habits.

In my opinion, pills should only be taken in desperate situations and as a very last resort. In fact diet pills should never be taken without the prescription of a doctor because of the health risks involved. So unless you are very obese and risk health problems due to your obesity it is best to forget about diet pills altogether.

It depends on what you mean by 'diet'.

You don't have to go "on a diet" to lose weight, but you do need to change your diet. (The definition of diet being "the food that a person or animal usually consumes")

Eat healthy, don't overeat, and don't be a total slug laying around on the couch all day, and you should be able to attain, and maintain, a healthy weight.
