  • This really is a question of definition. I heard a news item once about a guy who wanted to marry his horse and sued for the right to do so. If a state redefines "marriage" to include a relationship of some kind between a person and a horse, do other states have to recognize it? The word "marriage" in U.S. law has always signified by definition a legal relationship between a man and a woman with a number of explicit restrictions on age, familial relationship, etc. If one court or legislature in one state redefines the word "marriage" to include other kinds of relationships it becomes a question of legal definition, not "full faith and credit." The Federal Government (Congress) acted to make sure that the definition of the word would be consistent for federal and interstate purposes.
  • Congress doesn't worry about the Constitution, they just vote however they want.
