I always thought it stood for Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden. Although I do love my sexy golf girls. :)

Oh heck no. People have to be very physically fit to be able to stand walking around in a hot sun AND insanely cold weather all the time. And this is combined with the fact that some people carry their heavy golf bags around instead of driving a cart.

I lost a lot of weight when I golfed in h.s. We had to walk the 9 holes everyday to practice, and when we went o tournaments we had to walk all 18 holes. It was a long exhausting day. Good exercise.
