Like, as in having knick-knacks, electronic toys, and just purchasing lots of items beyond the essential food, clothes and shelter?
No. Watch BBC sometime, or shows on other countries (Japan, for instance, is absolutely crazy about the electronics, we can't touch them). Compared to 3rd world countries, yeah. But then, we have more money to spend on such items.
A bigger question, I think, is does it make us happier to have all of this stuff than someone who has to make do with only the necessities for life?
