Why are only thoroughbreds used as racehorses?

    I agree with darienne on the one point, but they race throughbreds because they are bred to be the best through their bloodline.

    no. quarter horses race too. it all depends what kinds of race it is. i have a quarter horse who is 5 now and she raced when she was 3 won3 tied 2 lost 0 and they retired her

    they aren't the only horses used for racing. there r quarter horses, arabians, and standardbreds, and even paint horses. if u mean for all of the big races like the triple crown and the breeders cup, i think that this is becuz thoroughbreds r bed to run and to be competitive. they can run at high speeds for long distances so maybe that is why. they need to be a lil sturdier tho
