I never though of it that way... but now that I think of it... it is really sad isn't it :( well its good I only get fake trees :) +4

No. They replant them and start all over. Perfect example of renewing a resource.
-
No. What bothers me is the cacti. We simply ignore cacti at Christmas like they aren't good enough. I mean, just cause cacti have a bum rap doesn't been they don't have feelings too!

Is there really a difference between christmas trees and cows for hamburgers or steaks? Same principle.
-
I'd prefer they cut them down then ones in the wild that are much more likely to serve as a habitat for something.

My father owns a couple of hundred acres of pine forest, and we're proud of it. A well-kept slash pine forest provides a rapidly regrowing habitat for local wildlife, a very good reason to come to local growers instead of cutting down even more virgin forest, and is a very good long term investment, as the need for wood and paper isn't going to slow down any time soon. I have no possible idea what you're talking about when you speak of burning down or throwing away slash trees - the lumber industry strives to make use of every inch and ounce of tree harvested. The christmas tree growers try to do the same thing, offering programs to recycle the trees and grow them where people would be hard pressed to waste them. This is an end user problem.

I suppose you could look at it like growing food crops. We grow them and cut them down and use them and throw away the leftovers.

No. People grow turkeys all year just to have them slaughtered for Christmas ( a one day pleasure, compared to the weeks you can enjoy the tree.) We don't need turkey, we could just have hamburger instead and it would be just as nutritious, especially if it was lean hamburger. Almost everything that humans do consumes something, eating, travelling, even sleeping we use up fabric and furniture. All of nature consists of the consumers and the consumed.
-
Nope. They constantly replant them.
-
no tree farmers need to make a living as well. and they constantly plant and keep them going. i myself only use artificial trees because i like to put mine up early.
-
Now that they chip them to use in public parks as mulch, I'm pretty much okay with the practice. Although, I prefer a living tree over a cut one.
