If it's attached to a table that's probably a good thing. It should "swing down" and store inside the desk, and swing back up for use. Yours can come off of the table, it's just screwed on via the clamps designed just for that purpose. It is easier to use when it's on a table like yours however, because the surface is flush with the table, and not up a couple inches.
