I worked for hours on a PowerPoint that I had copied onto my desktop from a network drive. I saved often. When I shut down the computer and rebooted later, the document was gone and desktop was restored to default. Can I recover this document?

Saving files onto the desktop is never a good idea. Use Windows Explorer to search your entire C drive for the file, using either the name you gave it or *.pps to find all Powerpoint files.
