  • The laws vary state to state, however the law in some states require the dealership to disclose whether the vehicle is salvaged and a salvaged vehicle must be recertified by the state authorities before it can be retitled and tagged. The title will indicate that the vehicle had been salvaged prior to being available for sale on the dealer's lot. Unfortunately there are unscruplous people who buy salvaged cars and have them rebuilt in states that do not have very strict laws concerning vehicle safety. As for a vehicle that has been wrecked or in a major accident, there are no laws against the resale of the vehicle.
  • Each state is definitely different. if you have a vehicle in mind to purchase, do the following: 1. ask the dealer to look at the title of the proposed vehicle. if the dealer hesitates or gives fraud answers, he is hiding something. look at the title to see its past history. some states now require this and its on the title. 2. write down the vin or vehicle identification number. its on the drivers door and on the dash in front of the drivers steering wheel. if its not there.....beware and notify the police. take the vin and pay a small fee to check the vehicle's past history. there is a website for this purpose. also, beware of vehicles that come from storm torn areas, like new orleans and the gulf coast area. these vehicles may be infected and cause health problems for you and your family. .
