Is cash for clunkers a good deal?

    No.

    It's another gimmick that will only add to the debt we'll have to pay off.
    Also, even if you get $4500 off, you still are personally in debt for the balance.
    If you're driving a qualifying "clunker" (Not one of my cars is less than eight years old and NONE of them qualify) then you probably can't afford an additional $300-$500/mo. expense, even if BO "gave" you $4500 for the purchase.

    I wonder how long it will be before we need a "clunker bailout" to re-imburse the loaning institutions for all of the re-po'd "cash for clunkers" cars that people couldn't actually afford.
    That's why they were driving a clunker to begin with.

    I think that it would be a lot more helpful for our economy if it restricted new purchases to american cars,but other than that why would free money not be a good deal?
