I was too scared for lasik so instead I got 'ortho k' contact lenses. They are hard (gas permeable) lenses which you wear at night. During the night they flatten the cornea and when you take them out in the morning you can see. I could see well enough to drive the next day although the effects wore off during the day. After a couple of weeks the eye has changed shape more so the perfect vision lasts until bedtime.
You do have to keep wearing the lenses every night. If you get fed up and stop wearing them your eye returns to its natural shape and you can go back to glasses. I'm very happy with this solution.

I heard that the risk /benifit isn't too bad, but that your eyes still age and you will probably have ot get it done again in 10 to 15 years. So I guess to weight the pros and cons of it: How much would spend on glass over 10 years as oppose to the up front cost of the surgery.

If your insurance covers it.do it.

I had PRK (precursor to Lasik - no flap, they just laser off the front of the eye which then has to grow back so recovery time was about 2 weeks) about 10 years ago, and I LOVE it. My eyes were too dry for contacts, and I couldn't stand glasses.

I had no problems, and everyone else I have asked who has had laser eye surgery has not had any problems either. My eyes are still 20/20, and I don't have to worry about my glasses fogging up, not being able to see in the rain, etc. Also great for when you go swimming (you can actually see the end of the pool!).
