Without being rude how do you tell company its time to end the night? (okay rude if they don't leave soon!)

I just say well it's getting late and I have to get up in the morning, hey why don't you call me and maybe we can do lunch..

Go change into your pyjamas...exuse yourself to go and brush your teeth...or just start snoring.

You could also pull out the sofa bed and ask if they'd like to stay the night and send yourself off to bed.

My company is more times than not my brother and some friends. I just tell them I am going to bed, go to bed or go home.

"Time to get naked or leave. We're going to bed". But you do need to have some idea how they will answer before asking, or you could have an awkward situation.

be carrying on conversation...blah, blah, blah, look at your watch "OMG is it 10 pm ALREADY! How time flies when we're having fun, but I have a 8 am appointment! We'll have to get together again soon and finish this conversation", then get up to walk them to the door!

I simply announce that it is time to call it a night and start turning off TV, Stereo etc ... That usually gives folks the hint . +5

I usually strike up the Orchestra Pit music while cue-cards tell them that time is running out. ;)

Dinner gongs can also be used to end a meal, if given to a toddler. For last resort, pepper spray can't be beat, but get the toddler out of the room first.
