I loved the movie. It's one of those things that runs like my mind. It's a little unorganized and you have to make sense of what is bieng said. Once you do, it doesn't really make sense; because in some odd fashion it does!

Donnie finds a way to time-travel via rips in space and time. He takes his own life, which if he were where he should have been would have happened to begin with.
Frank, a creepy, rabbit-masked guy, sort of represents the beckoning of a death that should have occured. It is because it did not that everything succeeding the jet-engine happend.

The jet engine itself shows us that this "loop" must have been planned in time, but this is the only part of the echo in time that remains when Donnie goes back.

It's kind of like a looped "butterfly effect".

I hope this helps, but as I said, the mind describing the movie is no less scrambled than the movie itself!

I loved it, there are many interpretations as to what went on but its one of those films that doesnt try to make sense... and better for it.

Can't explain it because I don't fully grasp it yet but all I know is that I loved it. Prob because it wasn't your typical movie with the happy ending. It actually makes you think.
