Why do people sak "LIKE". Example- i was going to "like" cut my hair, then "like" decided not to!.. I occasionaly say like too, but where did it come from its so annoying and over used for everything and almost everyone.

    Like is a word to use when unsure of what to say next in some cases

    I think it started as a verbal pause... such as when people say "um" in the middle of a sentence.

    Here's my guess. Often when talking people will say this is like that, my dog is like that one on TV, that car is like one I saw yesterday, etc. Then when people get stuck or nervous about how to say something, they try to think what it's like to explain it, but they can't think of anything to compare it to, so as far as they get is to say, like....
