    Depends on the nature of the base itself.
    .
    Not every base requires this. And security can be provided by private agencies for such bases just as well as servicemembers, which frees up servicemen for other duties.

    I strongly agree with you on this point. I think a soldier or sailor who has been trained are a much better deterrent than the rent a cops that some bases use. Also, the soldiers are already there and getting paid -- it makes no sense to have to hire contract labor to do the job that the soldiers are much more able to handle.

    Yes. I am sick and tired of going to posts overseas and seeing armed KBR guards controlling access points. Those guys are being paid FAR more than the soldiers inside the gates.

    They are. At least the one ive been on does. I used to have a contract with the local base, and their personnel bomb-checked me and the vehicle before we were allowed in, and even then, only with an escort.
