it will effect the economy and everyone being layed off, and i wont b able to do the rare "shipping a box off to who knows where" anymore
There are people in many small town in the rural areas that will be hurting badly.
I live in a city and don't get there anyway. I use the internet and a substation (in a grocery store) is 2 blocks away.
I'm gonna miss that machine that spits out the dollar coins! I love and use those things, even if gas stations don't like them. They make me feel medieval :p Other than that, I email what isn't freight.
not too much, I'm not too much of a letter-sending dude.
I've gone totally technological.
Won't affect me too much, I'm sure those bills will find a way to get into my mailbox. :(
Australia Post did this a number of years ago, unfortunately they got it wrong and closed many smaller towns and villages post offices which in many cases are the life blood of these towns as they not only do post they do banking and other stuff. After many protests they had to reopen many of the ones they shut down and rethink about which ones to close down. In the end they closed down some of the bigger Cities post offices and Suburban branches especially one that were in a 5 to 8 mile radius of each other. This in the end did save the Postal service money and stopped a lot of doubling up in certain areas BUT this did not translate into lower postal costs for the consumers
People just don't use the post office as much anymore. Mail volume is way down and losses are mounting. If our nearest branch is one that closes, it won't be that big a deal to me. I must visit it 1 or 2 times a year, and therein lies the problem.
Closing the only branch in a small town would hurt, but the plan is to cut back on branch offices in major metropolitan areas. In today's Internet age, it seems to make good sense to me.
It would be a bit of an annoyance. The next closest post office is 10 miles away.
No doubt the price of stamps will go down due to the money they save by closing the post offices.
This has been going on in the UK for years and many small villages with very poor transport links have had the P.O.s closed making it very difficult for elderly people who used to collect their pensions from the Village offices.
I am sure in the rural communities it will have a much more traumatic affect than in towns.
It wouldn't have much of an effect on me as I have three within three miles.

You're reading The US Postal Service's latest plan is to close up to 1,000 underperforming post offices. (see link) How much would it affect you if your local post office closed?
